Frequently Asked Questions

What are your hours of operation?

The School Office is open Monday through Friday, from 7:30am - 3:30pm.

What is your average class size?

Currently the average class size is 15 students.

Can I schedule a school visit?

Absolutely! Please email mainoffice@skda-sd.org to schedule a campus tour or a shadow day. Include your name, the name(s) of your student(s), and their prospective grade level. We look forward to meeting you soon!

Do you have partial-day hours available?

No. Enrolled students (including TK) must attend full days of school.

Do you offer before / after school care?

Yes. SKDA Extended Daycare Program (EDP) schedule is 3:30pm - 6:00pm after school (12:30pm - 6:00pm on Wednesdays and minimum days). We do not offer before school care.

Is there a specific enrollment period?

Students may enroll throughout the school year. Tuition assistance for returning families typically opens Jan. 1-Feb. 28 of the prior school year. New families are welcome to apply as needed.


Interested families must apply for financial aid during the January-February deadline to be eligible for maximum tuition assistance based on their qualifications for the upcoming school year. Please visit the Enrollment page for step-by-step details and requirements.

Is SKDA accredited?

Yes. SKDA is accredited by NCEA, Western Catholic Education Association, and WASC, Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Does St. Katharine Drexel Academy have secured entrances?

Yes. The safety and security of our students is a top priority. The perimeter gates are locked during school hours, with one entrance on 56th Street, accessible via doorbell. All visitors must sign in and out from the School Office.

Does St. Katharine Drexel Academy provide meals?

SKDA offers a lunch program through San Diego Catering Company. Meals can be purchased for $6 each through each family’s SchoolSpeak account by the announced deadline. All meals are prepaid in advance and offered Monday-Friday.

What is the educational philosophy at St. Katharine Drexel Academy?

SKDA believes that students are open to learning and growing at their best when they feel safe and happy. Our philosophy is to teach and model Christ-like leadership in our school learning environment through love, not fear.

What is the education level of St. Katharine Drexel Academy teachers?

At. St. Katharine Drexel Academy, we hire credentialed, qualified teachers and instructional aides with experience and college coursework exceeding the minimum requirements by the state. Our certificated employee hiring requirements surpass those set by most Catholic schools - our teachers have CA credentials, and/or credentials in process.

How are parents made aware of their children's progress at St. Katharine Drexel Academy?

SKDA publishes progress reports (both formal and informal) every 3 weeks on SchoolSpeak. Twice a year (December and May) we host student-led conferences with the student, parent and teacher. Report cards are sent home every trimester, as well as a Grad Profile Report Card. Parents and teachers are encouraged to work together as a team to support our students toward reaching their goals, and developing skills and habits to foster growth and success.
